How to store fresh cheese and preserve its qualities

If you love dairy products in general or fresh cheese in particular, you have probably wondered how best to store fresh cheese so it does not spoil or go off too quickly. Do not worry: we have the answer!

Fresh cheeses have not undergone a maturing process, unlike semi-mature or mature cheeses. This means their storage life is considerably shorter.

How should you store it in the fridge to make it last longer?

First of all, it clearly needs to be kept in the fridge. Fresh cheese cannot be stored at room temperature, as it would not remain edible for long. Keep it at a temperature of about 4ºC. We therefore recommend putting it on the upper shelf of the fridge, with other dairy products such as yoghurt. This will keep the cheese at the right temperature to help preserve it.

The packaging is another important factor. The best option is to keep it wrapped in cling film or aluminium foil. Another good choice is a container sealed against contact with the air. This will keep the product edible for longer.

How long does it last in the fridge?

Fresh cheese can last in the fridge for approximately 8 to 12 days. However, this depends largely on how it is stored and the temperature inside the fridge. If it is well covered and wrapped, it can last up to 12 days. If it is not covered properly, it will spoil quickly and may last only three or four days.

Can fresh cheese be frozen?

Unfortunately, this delicious product cannot be frozen. Freezing affects its flavour, texture and smell. Its texture becomes harder and more solid, and once thawed it will not taste the same as before. We therefore do not recommend it!
